We’ve got a problem: We have a whole bunch of people who would like to give us money to provide managed support and hosting for their applications, and not enough awesome people like you to help us give it to them.
Rails Machine is a managed hosting company that was formed specifically to provide hosting and specialized support to the Ruby on Rails community, way back in 2006, when everyone was still running Rails 1.×. We’ve been doing our thing for longer than anyone else, and we’re the best at what we do. If you don’t believe us, take a look at what our customers have to say.
We’ve discovered that there are lots of Rails developers out there, but there are only a handful of Rails developers who have all of the skills we value most:
- Full-stack knowledge. When it comes time to figure out why a customer’s view is rendering too slowly, we want people who are as comfortable troubleshooting hardware and tuning persistence layers as they are with debugging code. Here’s a partial list of some of the tech you’ll find yourself working with (apart from Ruby/Rails):
- Linux
- Apache
- Phusion Passenger
- Unicorn
- Moonshine
- MongoDB
- MySQL
- PostgreSQL
- Memcached
- Redis
- Riak
- RabbitMQ
- Ability to learn quickly. The Rails ecosystem changes quickly, and much of it isn’t even written in Ruby (gasp!)
- Communication. Much of a Rails Machine engineer’s day will involve dealing directly with the customers they’re supporting, so we need people who are as comfortable interfacing with humans as they are with APIs.
- Passion. We love working with this stuff, and we want engineers who share our passion.
We know that it’s unlikely we’ll find people with the depth of knowledge needed to do this job (but if you have it all, we’d love to chat!). That’s why we’re willing to train you. That’s right, while working for Rails Machine, you’ll pick up skills that will serve you for the rest of your career wherever you go. Of course, you’ll stick with us, because we’re awesome. But should you ever decide to leave, you’ll leave much smarter than when you started.
Sound interesting? Of course it does. Let’s talk.
